Ball lightning, a very rare and one of the most fascinating types of lightning, has been recorded in Bergamo., Italy around 01:30 CET on July 14, 2017 during severe storms.
Immediately after the strong pulsing glow came a very strong smell of sulfur, a common trait with ball lightning reports. There were no signs of fire the following morning and this occured some 2-3 meters (6.5-9.8 feet) above the tree tops on a hillside in front of the observers home, EU Storm Map reports.
Just below millions of people there is a supervolcano that has begun to show signs of reawakening. The supervolcano, Campi Flegrei, is a 8 miles wide and sits beneath the Bay of Naples offshore Italy.
Recent monitoring of the volcano points to a reawakening of one of the largest volcanos in Europe.
Scientist believe that magma at the Campi Flegrei volcano in Naples is reaching a level designated by ''critical degassing pressure'' (CDP). This is characterized by sudden release of water-rich gases in vast volumes, which could lead to rock failure and explosion of the volcano, the report, released late last month, said.
''We propose that magma could be approaching the CDP at Campi Flegrei, a volcano in the metropolitan area of Naples, one of the most densely inhabited areas in the world, and where accelerating deformation and heating are currently being observed,'' the eight scientists said in the report.
There have been some reawakening signs in Campi Flegrei since the 1950s, from some low earthquake activity to hidrothermal degassing, with a pause in early 2000s. But in 2005, there were new uplifts and further activity has been recorded.
A giant tornado struck near Rome, Italy, Sunday, killing at least two and injuring dozens. According to Corriere Dela Sera, a 25-year-old man was killed in the city of Ladispoli, a coastal town north of the capital, when a cornice fell from a building and struck him on the head.
The tornado caused two of the floors in the eight story building to collapse in Via Ancona. Shops, cars and trees have also suffered damage.
Italy has been hit by powerful storms that have left branches strewn across roads and flooding in some areas.
Weather reports say severe storms are expected, with a tornado risk in Central Italy.
The witness statement: ''It happend the first time in August 2013. I was at my house a friend of mine (here of dinner) called me to see what was going on in the sky. We saw a sort of orb red/orange hovering in the sky, before I could get my camera to record it , it went away with incredible speed. Few months later I saw it again but I could take a least a pic of it. Yesterday my cat was ''shouting'' at the sky so I went to check and I saw the object. I've had time to get my phone and start recording for 30 seconds.''
