A herd of reindeer was struck by lightning in Norway, killing at least 323 of the animals. Reindeers are known to huddle together during storms.
According to the New York Times, officials surmised that an extremely high discharge of electricity from the storm on Friday afternoon - and the interaction of the lightning with the earth and water - had electrocuted the animals.
Norwegian officials say they've never seen anything of this scale.

The bizarre video which has circulated online for days shows several individuals in black cloaks gathering in a main square at Europe's top physics lab, in what appears to be a re-enactment of an occult ceremony. The video includes the staged 'stabbing' of a woman.
''These scenes were filmed on our premises, but without official permission or knowledge,'' a CERN spokeswoman told AFP in an e-mail.
''Cern does not condone this type of spoof, which can give rise to misunderstandings about the scientific nature of our work,'' she added.

The tides have revealed a gallery of petroglyphs on a beach in Hawaii that experts say have never been recorded before. The glyphs are pecked into the sandstone floor of the beach at Waianae, on the western coast of Oahu, which is typically covered with a thick blanket of sand.
But in late July, tourists arrived at the beach to find the bedrock exposed and the rock festooned with a series of human-shaped figures, their feet pointing toward the ocean.

Archaeologists have uncovered what may be the largest royal tomb found in more than a century of work on Maya ruins in Belize, along with a puzzling set of hieroglyphic panels that provide clues to a ''snake dynasty'' that conquered many of its neighbors some 1,300 years ago.
The tomb was unearthed at the ruins of Xunantunich, a city on the Mopan river in western Belize that served as a ceremonial center in the final centuries of Maya dominance around 600 TO 800 AD.

My brother was driving back home after a fishing trip on Hwy 48 when he noticed a bright, oval shape object moving slowly from left to right then stopping and hovering.
The sky was cloudless at that time of day; you can see the sunset in the background of the video he recorded. The object had a small object that was trailing the big oval object and was absorbed, but was not captured on the video.
As with most videos, there is a possibility that the object may be of terrestrial origin.
A great flood at the dawn of Chinese civilization was said to have swept away setlements, the water rising so high that it overran hills, mountains and even heaven itself. According to CBS News website, a team of researchers say in a study published in the journal Science that they've indeed found evidence that a flood submerged a vast swath of the country almost 4,000 years ago.
Using radiocarbon dating of bones and soil samples along the Yellow River, the researchers established that an earthquake triggered a huge landslide, damming the waterway in 1920 B.C.
The researchers deduced that for six to nine months about 15 trillion litres (4 trillion gallons) of water built up behind a wall of rock and dirt near Jishi Gorge in today's Qinghai Province. When the dam broke, it tore through the gorge at 500 times the Yellow River's average discharge and submerged the North China Plain that is considered the cradle of Chinese civilization.
